How to keep your house clean if you have little time

How to keep your house clean if you have little time

Cleaning your home doesn’t have to take long, particularly if you live in a smaller house and clean during the week. We bring you 7 tips on what you can do every day to keep your home clean and tidy. By doing a little bit every day, you also create a habit and cleaning will not feel like a chore anymore.

Get your partner and kids involved

Every household member should get involved in keeping the house clean, get them involved in the daily cleaning tasks. Give your kids chores around the house to earn pocket money or other rewards. Showing your kids how to clean up after themselves will benefit them in later life too. Why not create a song when cleaning up toys with your toddler, it will teach them that after they finish playing with their toys, they have to clean up. Older kids can help you by cleaning their bedrooms, making their beds and putting the dishes in the sink or the dishwasher. More cleaning tasks you get help with, faster you can clean, and your home will be kept tidy.

Keep your kitchen sink and counters clear

To keep the kitchen clean, clear your sink and counters throughout the day and wipe down the counters after washing the dishes. A quick wipe down will keep your kitchen counters and table clean with minimal effort.

Clean up after each meal

To develop good habits, teach your children to put dirty dishes in the sink or the dishwasher after each meal and throw away wrappings and food leftovers. Wipe down the dining table and counters to clean any spills and mess from cooking. If necessary, sweep and mop the kitchen floor.

Make beds first thing in the morning

Are you having trouble finding the motivation to clean? Start the day right; start with making your bed. You will feel better, and it could just give you the motivation you need to clean or tidy up something else.

Vacuum regularly

It doesn’t matter if you have carpets or hardwood floors, regular vacuuming is a must to keep your home clean. Regular vacuuming prevents dirt from building up in the carpet fibres and helps in maintaining your floors.

Set some rules

  • No shoes in the house. Take off shoes at the door and put them onto the shoe rack.
  • No eating or drinking in the living room. Leave that for special occasions only.
  • Playing with toys only in the kids' rooms. If your kids play with toys in the living room, teach them to put them back in their place once they are done playing.

  • Don’t leave it for later

If you leave things for later, you will probably not do it at all. If there’s something that needs to be cleaned, just do it.

    5 minute tidy up

Allocate 3 - 5 minutes to pick up things around the house to stay on top of things.

Spread out cleaning tasks over the week

  • MONDAY - clean bathrooms
  • TUESDAY - clean kitchen
  • WEDNESDAY - Vacuum and mop floors
  • THURSDAY - Put away stuff lying around and dust all surfaces
  • FRIDAY - Change bedding and do the laundry
  • SATURDAY - Wash the windows (if needed) or just relax
  • SUNDAY - Put your feet up and relax

  • Hire a cleaning company near you

If you still don’t have enough time, motivation or energy to clean your home, then why not book a deep cleaning service every few months from your local cleaning company.
